The area of Marylebone was named for a church that was dedicated to St. Mary which was built on the banks of the Tybourne River. The manor house was valued at a whopping fifty two shilling in 1086. In 1710, The Duke of Newcastle got a bargain when he bought the manor house for seventeen and a half thousand pounds.
Gospel Oak
When Gospel Oak was still a rural area the residents used to come together under a large oak tree for church services. This is the practice that gave the area its name. The original residents when Gospel Oak was first built up were dubbed "navvies and quarrelsome shoemakers". It has since become a lot more respectable.
Swiss Cottage

Stonebridge
AS the name suggests, Stonebridge was named for a bridge made of stone that was used to cross the River Brent. A large portion of the current Stonebridge population is Afro-Caribbean.
Brent Cross
