Some things you might not know about North London, Courtesy of the White Van Man
Tufnell Park
Tufnell Park was an agricultural area that supplied London with milk until the nineteen century. Tufnell park was also home to Clive James, Ben Miller, Cathy Tyson, Helen McCrory and a number of other notables, some famous, others infamous.
Muswell Hill
Muswell Hill is thought to have inherited its name from some kind of spring or well that was called the Mossy Well, but this is not certain. What is certain is that the area was given to a sect of nuns who named their chapel Our Lady of Muswell. The area was also famous in the eighteenth century for its beautiful and varied vistas.
Woodside Park
Woodside Park contains some of the good old houses, built back when things seldom fell down. In Woodside Park Garden Suburb there are some homes that were built in the early to mid nineteen hundreds. The comedian, Spike Milligan, used to live in Woodside Park, though his house has since been pulled down.
Seven Sisters
Seven Sisters was named for a group of seven walnut trees that was on the village. It was originally called Page Greene, but in the early eighteen hundreds this fell away and was replaced by the name Seven Sisters.
Shacklewell
Shacklewell was once a tiny village that had to be grouped with three others to make assessment of things like population that much easier. As for notable people, the daughter of the Catholic martyr, Sir Thomas More, married into the Heron family in the early fifteen hundred's whilst they still occupied the manor house of Shacklewell.
